Fine dining, prosecco and celebrations

Wednesday evenings are now dedicated to the Great British Bake Off, as many fellow Brits would agree. But a new job offer calls for celebration; Rory and I decided to watch it on catch up the following evening and instead, go for a lovely Italian in Castlefield. A Prosecco bar and a fine Italian, is there a more wonderful way to end a Wednesday evening?

I am currently on placement year, which was extended to the end of August. Then the North American team hired me to work in the Manchester office supporting the website through September, before my return to University.  This calls for celebration, after a little research I found Per Tutti, opposite Don Marco; next to the Hilton. This little gem is an amazing find.

We booked a table in advance because we have a taste card, which means we can get two for one on all courses. Arriving at Per Tutti we were greeted with friendly faces and a great atmosphere. We were offered a variety of tables; we chose one in the corner on a sofa bench with cushions. The atmosphere was great and I loved the cosiness of the place.  Having read online they have a prosecco bar, it would have been rude not to get a bottle, we ordered this while we went through the menu.

What a menu! I had a brief look before arriving (wouldn’t be me if I didn’t), so many options I would have loved to try. But, I can’t be too greedy so we did have to make a decision. For starters, we decided to get a cheesy garlic pizza bread because you can pretty much never go wrong with this! Rory wanted to order focaccia. I have never eaten focaccia, so we thought this would be a new experience, warm focaccia served with tomato tapenade, houmous, oil and balsamic vinegar. The focaccia was so soft and light, it was a definite winner; I love bread dipped in balsamic vinegar so we asked for extra on the side, and the houmous was delicious. I didn’t however care for the tomato tapenade; it wasn’t quite my cup of tea.

On to the mains, I found a meal that I really wanted but was put off by the “sweetcorn cream”, when I asked the waitress; she made it sound great and really delicious so I ordered this anyway. The chicken was cooked perfectly, it was succulent and rich, top quality cooking; served with crushed new potatoes, broccoli, chilli, green beans and sweetcorn cream, all cooked still tender and plenty of flavour. The sweetcorn cream wasn’t as nice on it’s own, but paired with the chicken and crushed new potatoes it was divine. A really splendid dish; I could have eaten again and again (if my stomach would have allowed it).

Rory ordered the grilled pork chop, served with celeriac and apple, roast carrots, sage and onion. He also ordered chips on the side and was very glad he did, in truth the plate was quite small and for a large man who likes his food, it could have done with a bit more veg, or some carbs on the plate. He did however repeatedly tell me how great the pork chop was, succulent and tender, exactly what you want in a pork chop. The pork chop came away from the bone perfectly, showing just how great the meat quality was.

By this point I have eaten my fair share of food and I am pretty much full to the brim, Rory however really wanted a dessert (as his chop wasn’t the most filling). As it is two for one, we decided I might as well order one as well. I ordered the chocolate pudding served with vanilla ice cream and Rory ordered the sticky toffee pudding. I’m not sure if it was because I was very full, but I wasn’t feeling the chocolate pudding. The sticky toffee pudding however was divine, I had a spoonful and it was delicious, one of the best sticky toffee puddings I have eaten. Rory ended up eating most of both the puddings (of course this was his plan all along).

The waitress noticed I was taking lots of photos of my meal (while Rory, patiently *cough* *cough* waited to eat). Noticing I was a blogger, the chef wanted to bring over a complimentary dessert, which was going on the new two courses for £10 menu tomorrow. Passion fruit crème brulee; wow! It really was delicious; the hard sugary top was in perfect contrast to the smooth, creamy, yet sharp, sweet tang of the passion fruit. As I told the waitress, if this had been on the menu I would have definitely ordered it, it was a perfect way to end the meal (Rory didn’t get quite as much as he hoped on this dessert).

Friendly staff, great food and Prosecco, it was a wonderful evening and I would highly recommend. More on the expensive side, but totally worth it, especially if you get a discount or go for the two courses for £10 before 7pm.
